[I started this web page on the 23rd , but it became too difficult to use my notebook as the left mouse button does not "fire" over half the time. I press it in different places, tap it, tap it harder then I quit in frustration. I lay flat on my back with my broken ankle held "higher than my heart" 4 couch cushions high. I balance the notebook on my right knee and crank my neck up to see. When surfing the net, it doesn't fire to use the scroll bar without a lot of tapping. To correct a spelling, the left button needs to fire.]

August 23rd, at 11:30 at Salt Pond Park, Kolo's Celebration of Life is happening. I cannot go...doctor's orders. The surgery for my triple-ankle break is scheduled for Tuesday. [Rescheduled for the 2nd.] There was still a problem with blisters and swelling which Dr. Rick treated then wrapped up my leg with some kind of soft cast. I promised to spend the weekend with my ankle resting "higher than my heart" all the time. No Celebration of Kolo's Life for me today. Kolo would understand.

On the morning of the 16th, Doug and I were going on a Na Pali Coast fishing trip with Clifford in his boat. We had the boat in the water at Port Allen Small Boat Harbor...I had the bow line coiled in my hand. I should have tossed it into the boat before I got in. From my memory's instant replay...As I stepped down from the dock, I aimed my left foot toward the center of the boat beyond the small "step" shown in the photo...

....

....

Maybe the boat's bow moved slightly away from the dock and I took my eye off where my foot was to land to see where I was going to toss the bow line. Only half my foot was beyond the little step and as I had committed myself to the jump, when my foot slipped down from the step to the deck, I sort of rolled toward the center and heard my bones crack! I still had the bow line in my hand and my foot was hanging sidways.

I took two photos of my ankle...

...then handed my camera to Doug who shot the following photos of the great job done by the firemen and the paramedics getting me out of the boat and to the hospital:

Tomorrow begins early...Paratransit meets me at my door at 5:50 am for the ride to KVMH and surgery. Talk with you all later.

September 9th: My leg is healing well. I was able to get a CD copy of the before and after surgery X-rays, but the program would not let me copy the images. So, I took photos of the images on my monitor then cropped the images. The first three were taken on the day I broke it, the next two were taken on September 8.

This has been quite an adventure that I hope not to repeat.
