Aloha all...
The first day that I arrived on Kaua'i, July 20, 1982, I was so impressed with it's beauty that I wanted my eldest daughter, Lorilyn, to experience it...soon. I went to a travel agent and reserved a 1-week round trip air ticket to O'ahu where I was living at that time, then telephoned her. She was taking a course during that summer and could not make the trip...even for a weekend.
For years and years, I wanted to share Kaua'i with Lorilyn, but she has more than a great fear of flying and has never visited Kaua'i. To make a long story short, I finally got my wish...Lorilyn and her boyfriend, Kevin arrived on Kaua'i early evening on December 9th after a 6-hour non-stop flight from Los Angeles.

Their arrival preceded a series of 4- to 10-inch per hour rain storms with thunder and lightning including a tornado (which we were actually in). This went on during the week of their visit. The ocean was brown from all the flooding runoff and because of the clouds most of the beauty could not be seen. My ankle is healing well, but I must make time to hold it "higher than my heart" and this limited my participation in some of their venturing. But, Lorilyn made it to Kaua'i and Kaua'i weather showed its worst excluding hurricanes. She was lucky to get all that bad Kaua'i weather out of the way, for her next visit, the weather will be perfect!
There was a bonus, of sorts; their return flight was cancelled because of mechanical problems, so they spent another 24 hours on Kaua'i in the Marriott Resort Hotel paid for by the airline.
It was fortunate that we went to the North Shore on the 11th. Even though it was raining a lot, we had breaks at 'Anini Park and Hanalei Pier.

Then we stopped and the Hanalei Valley Lookout, but could not see the waterfall behind the clouds.

We continued to the end of the road in the rain. I stayed in the car while they checked sites out. I took no more photos that day.
On the 13th, they explored around Kekaha and Waimea. I hoped they didn't miss this rainbow...

They did not...

We took our chances, with a late start, to Waimea Canyon Lookout and the two Kalalau Lookouts. As you can see, we were under the clouds which blocked half of the view. (The last time I was there in August, it looked like in Artmail 166c.

It is not often one sees waterfalls across the canyon.

Then we drove to the end of the road to Pu'u o Kila Lookout, but it was so foggy that I didn't take any photos. We had better luck at Kalalau Lookour which was just under the cloud layer.

The island had all its worst weather for Lor except a hurricane. For her next trip, Kaua'i's weather will be perfect.
