On my last day on Atiu, I wanted to get photos of Atiu's lake, Teroto. In 1985, while on Rarotonga, the capital island of the Cook Islands, I purchased the book pictured. In it was a black-and-white photograph of Teroto taken from a distance and also a description of the lake. It is a freshwater lake which is tidal (water leval fluctuates with the tides). There are fish and eels in the lake and many Atiuans learned how to swim there. There is a tunnel connecting the lake with the sea (see map). The photos that I took were the first and only color photos I've seen of Teroto.
