Now, we are headed toward Tapuaetai Motu, better known as the famous One Foot Island. We pass an interesting sand island on the way.
.
There are several legends about how One Foot Island got its name. One is that a man and his son were being pursued by enemies. The father picked up his son and carried him to a tree and hid the boy. The father then went back on the beach and walked about. When the enemies caught up with the father, he was killed, but because there was only one set of foot prints, the enemies looked no further for the son, who was thereby saved.
