Aloha all...

I didn't finish with what I was going to do with Artmail 117b because after I got back from Lihu'e, Mich telephoned me. He was already on Kaua'i and I hadn't answered my phone. So, he drove his rental car out to Polihale for a swim. He was shocked encountering the cane road. I explained to him that it is not a state or county highway...it is a road for hauling sugar cane, primarily. The state has an easement to allow public access to Polihale State Park. (It is pretty much accepted that rental cars may drive to Polihale even though the road is not paved. Many tourists do turn back when they see the start of the cane road...that's their loss).

No, I would NOT like a paved road to Polihale which would eventually lead to the ruin of what makes Polihale special for local people. I know what has happened to mainland camping areas through the years. For me, Polihale is perfect. But, I'm glad we didn't make an effort to get Mich set up with a camp there yesterday. Heavy rains happened on the Westside and I assume at Polihale, too. We went on a site see to the Northshore in the sunshine.

Before, I put up Mich photos, I want to catch up on what I was going to do in Artmail 117b. At Tashi's art show The Polihale G-String Band will entertain.

I am going to clear up a misunderstanding right now. There will not be a group of stunning strippers performing, but there will be some ripping strummers backing Harmonica Greg on the harp. The G-String referred to by the group is the ukulele's G-string...it's the top one.

Mich arrives at Kekaha Ha'aheo CouchStation #1...after a long flight from Tokyo. This is the only photo I took that day:

...

...

After he put his bags by his couch, I drove him in my "new" 1985 Toyota Tercel to the post office and to Thrifty Mart to pick up some Ahi Poke and beer. Instead of driving back to 15B, I drove us up to the first Waimea Canyon lookout. Then down to Waimea by the other road then to the Waimea swinging bridge and the Menehune Ditch. I wasn't thinking when we started…we didn't have our cameras! I bought some hamburger and cooked a quick hamburger steak, baked potato and salad…kind of an embarrassing way to first feed the man from France.

The next day, we went over to see Tashi and view the Portugal photos CD that Mich made for me.

...

...

As we were leaving Tashi's, a kite-boarder was having fun. It was difficult for me to catch a photo of him flying.

As we were leaving 15B to drive to the other side of the island, Kolo came by on his bike...

Kolo came by for a while, so Mich went exploring Waimea Canyon lookouts and the Kalalau Lookout on his own. I'm interested in seeing what photos he took. After Kolo left, I had some computer problems to deal with and photos to edit for this Artmail. I looks like a perfect day outside. OK...the photos:

Our first stop was at Clifford's house. There's a lot of work to be done after the fish have been caught.

...

Too much work going on there...we continued our journey. Next stop, Shipwreck's:

Then we left Shipwreck's and went to Po'ipu Beach where two mama Monk Seals gave birth. Their beach area becomes kapu for people. The Monk Seals make the news:

A seal is in the water near the rocks. I didn't get a good shot. Only a shiny head shows.

Then we went along the Southshore to Spouting Horn...
