Aloha all...

Happy Holidays everyone. It's been a busy time for me and the project I've given myself of scanning my old slides and photos is a slow process. The old slides from past travels have varying kinds of deterioration, dust, etc. which appear in the scanned images. It takes a lot of time to cut little pieces of clear sky to paste over the worst dark spots and lines which distract greatly from the "picture" before posting in last month's Artmails. I've also been doing some painting with acrylics on cocopalm fiber. My grandaughter loves "Hello Kitty" so I painted her with a Santa cap as seen above. The Hello Kitty is able to be separated from the background fiber. I enjoy little projects like that and learn from them as well.

During this time of the year, I have received more couchsurfing requests than I can handle. I planned to have only one hosting per month. I enjoy meeting and learning from couchsurfers while sharing part of my island experience with them. Anyway, this month it was a pleasure to have a young couchsurfer from Germany. Birgit is on an around-the-world trip. She has an Australian work permit and will be in Australia during the time that I will be at couchsurfer Wildduck's Rainbow Retreat in Nimbin this spring. Brigit may be there also.

In order to explore Kaua'i, it is best for the couchsurfer to have a rental car. It is possible to rent older cars from Island Cars at lower cost. I caught the Kaua'i Bus in the morning and rode to the airport to meet Birgit and get a rental car and take a tour to the Northshore and Ke'e Beach at the end of the road.

It happened that there were no rentals available at that time from Island Cars, so we had to rent a more expensive one from a regular agency. The first view stop was Wailua Falls. There have been many changes since I was last there and there were more cars and tourists then I have seen here at one time (which was true for most of the other places visited that day).

When we got to the Northshore, we ran into some rain so Birgit didn't get much of a view from Hanalei pier...

We went into the Dry Cave at Ha'ena Park.

When we got to the end of the road, after two or three rounds of looking for a parking space, Birgit got out of the car to check things out while I waited in the car in a non-parking place. Then we headed back. Next stop, the Hanalei Valley Lookout...

After a Subway sandwich and beer food break on the grass here, we headed for Kekaha. I went a differnt way from my usual route stopping at the Hanapepe Valley view place...

The next day, the weather didn't cooperate for sightseeing, so we mainly stayed near 15B, did chores and talked story. Earlier in December, I took these photos of 15B and my little garden...and The Nook...(another place to use the former Pvan's sleeping platform).

15B's "Less is better" holiday lights, but what the heck...check it out.

My garden is kind of "wild" and fun. The few species of plants can do their competition-for-light trip through the weeks and I get to watch.
