Aloha all...

My first photo of the month was this one of my ground cover planting progress:

...

...

Tashi found the name of the plant. It's the Boat Lily or Moses-in-the-Boat (Rhoeo spathacea). It's a native of Central America. The small, white flowers are in boat-shaped bracts below the leaves. It is not a true lily...it's in the Dayflower Family. I will be taking progress photos as the ground cover develops.

...

Kolo gave me these green onion plants.

...

Most afternoons, I've been going to Tashi's and we take a swim with her dogs. Before and after, the view below greets my eyes:

...

Those things at the left in the photo are didgeridoos for those who can play them to use. Here's another shot of them:

I don't have a clock in my parlor/studio/office/storeroom...I don't really need one, but Kolo misses one when he's here. He saw a fancy, too-delicate-for-me clock for sale at a discount because of the elephant's broken tusk. He bought it and gave it to me. I decided that if I had it in my parlor, it would have to be painted. I covered the heart-shaped clock face and sprayed it with acrylic clear so the acrylic paints might stick to the surface. Later, I took these photos:

This is how far I've gotten on this project.

Sunday, I was thinking that I would put more photos from my 1999 visit to the island of Atiu. I hope to return for a visit in early 2004. The phone rang. It was Clifford. At work at Polihale when he was walking up to Pavilion Two, he was asked what was wrong with the state pickup. He turned around and saw smoke coming out from beneath the hood. There was an electrical fire going on which he put out with the fire extinguisher. He had a ride into town as he was calling me. He was on his way home to get his pickup to return to Polihale to get his things out of the truck. He asked me if I wanted to go along. Of course I did. I hadn't wanted to drive out the day before because it had rained Friday and I didn't want to deal with the mud. So, riding shotgun I could take some photos. My camera batteries weren't charged! I did a quick charge until he arrived. I had no idea how many photos I could take with those incompletely charged batteries.

Clifford drove in on the cane roads tourists take. I hadn't been on it for a long time as I have another route to get into Polihale. Here are most of the photos:
