[Started three days ago, but other things got worked on...my plan is one Artmail/month minimum...tomorrow is March first...Happy Birthday, Kim!...Happy Birthday, Sil!]
Since the last Artmail, I have been doing some painting and a lot of reading, but no scanning of old photos or slides. I have emails to answer and I am slow to get to it. To answer questions about what I've been doing, I will put a link to this page. I'm not ready to start hosting couchsurfers yet because I am using the Couch Corner for two of my projects.
I have been using my painting/storage area where I have a large cooler filled with pieces of the fiber that hold palm fronds onto the trunks of coconut trees waiting to be painted on as greeting cards or other projects:

First, I started a cocofiber Valentine for my granddaughter, Lauren...

The problem is the mail delivery time from Hawaii to the mainland...estimate five days. I have been missing my "mailing deadline," but the Lauern's Valentine arrived in time. I ran out of time for my daughter, Lorilyn's cocofiber card to be completed as I had visualized and forgot to scan it before I rushed to the post office. She received it early.
My other birthday greetings in February were for the MacDonalds...Scott and Tommy. I want them to have PFP 02. I didn't have time to complete my birthday greetings for them on cocofiber. Here is part of the email letter I sent instead:

So, one of my art projects it to prepare PFP02 for painting the MacDonald of the Isle of Skye tartan as a headband...then paint it. It will take many, many coats of gesso to smooth out the ridges.

For my other daughter, Kim, I took that piece of cocofiber, which I had already cleaned and giving a light coat of acrylic clear on both sides, used a stream of hot water out of the faucet applied to the half-way crease to soften the fibers so they could be bent without breaking. Then I hung it out to dry in the closed position...

I painted both sides of the back page with many coats of gesso. I did not gesso the cover page.

I had gotten involved with current events and other reading as well as my painting projects and forgot to update this Artmail. I did finish Kim's cocofiber birthday card on the back of which I drew two Hawaiian petroglyph characters that I might use in future cocofiber projects. (They are easy to paint). I googled at a lot of petroglyph images, but decided to use the petroglyphs from Lauai that I found in a book I have:

But, my main art project this March is to get the MacDonald of the Isle of Skye tartan painted onto PFP02's headband.
