Aloha all...

It's Sunday, the 16th as I start typing this. Kalalau Ron is playing his flute in the camp site below where I set up. Melissa and Dave are reading in the shade here where Sidecar relaxes.

...

I look funny, but it's the only one I took.

...

These photos were taken on the 11th, the morning I got online for Artmail 41. I had no idea that I would stay that night in Kekaha...but, first some photos:

..

Ron, the Mayor of Kalalau, talks story with Jean Sharpe.

...

Kalalau Ron rode into Kekaha with me. When he returned to Polihale, he had the CDs he had burned of his first album, Kalalau Stew. (More about this later on). That morning there were two war ships and some boom booms off shore.

.

Patrick and Jean check out the navy ships with binoculars.

I didn't realize that I wasn't going to return that day. I'm sorry I missed visiting more with Jean. She enjoyed her time at Polihale. After I dropped Ron off, I went to Tashi's and took a few photos.

.

Check out the beautiful stand Ray Nitta made for Tashi's bell.

..

AA nice shot of Tashi, if she'll let it stay.

I had a letter in my mailbox saying that I had to have copies of documents delivered to Lihue in two days. No problem, I would drive the Tercel to Lihue after my dental appointment. But a problem happened after reaching the top of the mill road grade at Kalaheo...my radiator blew. I went to a phone and called Tashi and she told Mike and Mike came to the rescue. He followed me as I drove back toward Kekaha until the engine heated, then we stopped, waited, added water then drove on until it got too hot again etc. etc. We got to Kolo's where I parked the Tercel. Sol tried pinching the leaks closed, it helped, but the leaks were too bad to attempt to make it to Polihale. That evening, a spontaneous party developed on the grass in front of the Tercel...music and good fun.

The next day, I used Betsy's phone to price radiators then ordered a new one and antifreeze. I then called Tashi, who got word to Mike, who plays golf regularly in Wailua, and he picked up the new radiator and delivered it to me at Kolo's. I put the new one on while people walked by and gave words of encouragement. After the radiator was installed and everything was working, I drove out to Polihale to spend the night before driving to Lihue the next day.

Would you believe that when I dropped off the old radiator at the Land Fill, the Tercel wouldn't start back up. The battery was way down. I got a jump from someone. When I got to Polihale, then tried to start my car...nothing. I decided that I would use the battery from the van in the Tercel the next day. I dropped off the Tercel's battery to get charged on my way to Lihue. I delivered the documents then shopped for some supplies at Wal-Mart. I bought food supplies in Waimea then made it out to Polihale before sunset.

It's the 14th. I washed my sheets. Andy from Cape Cod is visiting Polihale again this year.

Kapt. Kirk shows video movies periodically at Polihale. He has solar panels to charge his marine battery. Then using an inverter, he runs his TV for the VCR. Because a lot of Polihale Ohana showed up, he put up a sphere and the Christmas lights. Here are some photos taken with a flash...not the best, but you get the idea:

Lloyd, The Sphere, and Kirk.

The 15th is another beautiful day and a lot of people showed up.

That's as close to a fog bank as we get at Polihale.

Jeff (Geoff?) and Andy from Cape Cod also enjoyed Kapt. Kirk's double feature in the evening.

Matt came to Polihale with a chick that he saved from an egg that fell out of the tree nest and shattered. The chickens here build nests about five feet from the ground in trees. Anyway he had to free it from the membrane surrounding it.

Matt took this photo of me.

Kolo goes fishing a lot. He was returning from fishing and gave Mango some talapia to bring out to Polihale for me. Here they are before frying.

That's it for this week.
